DLSS 5 on RTX 40 Series: Planned, Not Available Yet

The honest answer is: planned, but not available yet. RTX 40 cards are excellent current DLSS cards, but DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is only live for RTX 50 desktop and laptop GPUs in NBA 2K27 today.

What is known

RTX 40 supports DLSS Frame Generation, Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA in supported games. NVIDIA has also said RTX 40 DLSS 5 support is planned after RTX 50 optimization.

What is still open

RTX 40 does not have a public DLSS 5 player release date, driver path, or in-game setting yet. That is why this site labels RTX 40 as planned rather than confirmed.

RTX 4070 owners: what matters

If you searched for RTX 4070 specifically, the useful split is simple: your card already has the main RTX 40 DLSS stack, but it is not in the live RTX 50 DLSS 5 group. For the new DLSS 5 visual layer, wait for RTX 40 release documentation before buying or selling hardware around one feature.

The same logic applies across the generation. RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 have more raw power than RTX 4070, but their official DLSS feature class is still RTX 40, not RTX 50.

Upgrade guidance

Keep RTX 40

Good choice if current Frame Generation and image-quality features already solve your games.

Wait

Best choice if DLSS 5 on RTX 40 is the only reason you are considering a new GPU.

Buy RTX 50

Current path if confirmed DLSS 5 compatibility matters more than price.

Frequently asked questions

Will DLSS 5 be on RTX 40 series?

NVIDIA has said RTX 40 support is planned after RTX 50 optimization, but it is not available yet and has no public release date. RTX 40 cards still support current features such as Frame Generation, Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA.

Does RTX 4070 support DLSS 5?

RTX 4070 is in the planned RTX 40 bucket, not the currently supported bucket. It currently supports DLSS Frame Generation, Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, and DLAA.

Should RTX 40 owners upgrade only for DLSS 5?

If DLSS 5 is the only reason to upgrade, wait for NVIDIA's RTX 40 release details. RTX 40 cards are still strong for current DLSS features.
